How to Claim the BC Hydro EV Charger Rebate (2026 Guide)

Home/Guides/rebates

What Is the BC Hydro EV Charger Rebate?

BC Hydro offers a rebate of up to $350 for residential customers who install a qualifying Level 2 EV charger at their home. The rebate is part of BC Hydro's PowerSmart program and the broader CleanBC Go Electric initiative, designed to make home EV charging more affordable for BC residents.

Who Qualifies?

  • You are a BC Hydro residential customer (your home is in BC Hydro's service area — most of Greater Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and Vancouver Island)
  • You own or lease a plug-in electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle
  • You are installing a new Level 2 charger (240V) at your primary residence
  • The charger is on BC Hydro's qualifying products list (most major brands qualify — Emporia, Grizzl-E, ChargePoint, Wallbox, Enel X, Tesla)

FortisBC customers (Abbotsford, Langley, parts of the Fraser Valley) have a separate but equivalent $350 rebate through FortisBC — see our BC rebates page for details.

Step-by-Step: How to Claim the Rebate

  1. Confirm eligibility. Check that your address is served by BC Hydro (not FortisBC or a municipal utility). Log into your BC Hydro account and look for the EV rebate section, or call BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376.
  2. Choose a qualifying charger. Check the BC Hydro qualifying products list before purchasing. Most ENERGY STAR-certified Level 2 chargers qualify. We can confirm this during your free quote.
  3. Get your charger installed. A Technical Safety BC-licensed electrician must perform the installation. The permit and passed inspection are required documentation for the rebate application.
  4. Gather your documents. You will need: proof of charger purchase (receipt), the Technical Safety BC permit number, inspection confirmation, and your BC Hydro account number.
  5. Submit your application. Apply online through the BC Hydro website at bchydro.com. Most applications are processed within 4–6 weeks and the rebate is applied as a credit to your BC Hydro account.

Can I Stack This With Other Rebates?

Yes. The BC Hydro charger rebate can be combined with the federal EVAP vehicle purchase incentive (up to $5,000 off a new EV). The charger rebate is for the charger and installation; the EVAP is for the vehicle — they are separate programs with no stacking restrictions.
