EV Charger Rebates for Markham
Markham is served by Alectra Utilities. Here is what applies to a Markham home charger in 2026, including rate savings and pay-per-kWh rewards.
Get paid to charge your EV at home
EV Install Pro has partnered with WattsApp, Canada's home-charging rewards program. Our Tesla Certified installers install your Tesla charger, then set you up with WattsApp step by step, so you start earning on day one.

Markham Uses Alectra, Not Toronto Hydro
Markham is served by Alectra Utilities, so rate plans and programs differ from the Toronto-focused offers you may see advertised. Alectra's only residential EV charger program we could confirm is the SmartCharge pilot, which is waitlist-only. We could not confirm a standing Alectra charger rebate, so we do not advertise one.
The good news: Alectra offers the same ULO overnight rate, and pay-per-kWh charging rewards work regardless of your utility. We handle the permit and paperwork on every install.
This page covers Markham, Unionville, Thornhill (Markham side), Cornell, Milliken and Box Grove. Check your bill to confirm your utility.
WattsApp Home Charging Rewards
The only program on this page that pays you per kWh from the very first kWh. Install a Tesla Wall Connector (Gen 3 or Universal) at your Markham home, link it to your Tesla account, and WattsApp pays 21 points per kWh you charge (100 points = $1). At 5,000 kWh a year that is about $1,050, plus up to $150 a year in Supercharging reimbursements. Rates can change and earnings are not guaranteed.
- Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 or Tesla Universal Wall Connector, linked to a Tesla account
- A Tesla vehicle is not required (the Universal model also charges J1772 / CCS1 EVs)
- The full 21 points per kWh requires selecting the +3 Triple Play reward (18 without it)
- Points are redeemed by Interac e-Transfer from 10,000 points ($100)
Alectra Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) Rate Plan
Ontario's ULO price plan charges just 3.9¢ per kWh from 11 pm to 7 am every day, versus 9.8¢ off-peak and 15.7¢ mid-peak (rates set by the Ontario Energy Board for Nov 1, 2025 to Oct 31, 2026; prices reset each November 1). Charging 5,000 kWh a year overnight costs about $195, versus about $490 at 9.8¢ or $785 at 15.7¢. The tradeoff is a 39.1¢ on-peak price from 4 pm to 9 pm on weekdays, so ULO suits households that charge overnight.
- Alectra Utilities residential customer with a smart meter
- Switch through your utility account: no fee, and you can change plans later
- Works best when most charging happens overnight
- Needs a charger that can schedule charging (most smart Level 2 chargers can)
Alectra SmartCharge Pilot
Alectra's SmartCharge pilot gave 50 participants a discounted Level 2 charger with managed installation for $25 to $40 a month, in exchange for joining demand-response events. Initial recruitment is closed and new applications are waitlisted. The pilot is scheduled to wrap up in late 2026, so treat it as a possible future program rather than something to plan around today.
- Alectra account holder in a single-family home (including townhomes)
- Own or lease a battery-electric vehicle (plug-in hybrids are excluded)
- No existing Level 2 charger and room for at least a 40A breaker
- Panel and service upgrades are not included
Federal EV Affordability Program (EVAP)
EVAP replaced the old iZEV program in February 2026 and gives up to $5,000 off a new battery-electric vehicle (up to $2,500 for a plug-in hybrid), applied at the dealership. It applies to the vehicle, not to the home charger or its installation.
- New BEV or PHEV purchased or leased on or after Feb 16, 2026
- Transaction value at or under $50,000 (no cap for Canadian-made EVs)
- Vehicle must be on the Transport Canada eligible list
- Applied at the point of sale: no paperwork for you
Programs you may see advertised that are closed
- Canada Greener Homes Grant: Closed to new applications in February 2024 and wound down December 31, 2025.
- ZEVIP Home Charger Rebate (residential stream): Paused in January 2025. The public and multi-unit streams are for businesses and condos, not single-family homes.
